More excellence to come

Already #1 on the list of Best Public High Schools in Maryland, Poolesville High School is getting even better. The high school was built originally in several phases, beginning in 1951. Over the years, the facilities have become somewhat outdated. A renovation and expansion is underway, readying the school for more students, facilities, programs, flexibility, and security.

  • The building will accommodate 1,500 students, with planned additions to have room for 300 more.
  • The school will be organized around 4 hubs, including learning communities, gathering, support spaces, and dining.
  • Outdoor spaces include secured outdoor learning, recreation, a furnished courtyard, covered dining terrace, and detached greenhouse.
  • Flexible classroom and laboratory spaces will allow the school to incorporate evolving programs.
  • Energy efficiency is a strong component of the expansion, which is aimed at becoming a Net Zero Energy ready building.

When all is said and done—with completion expected for January 2025—the project will have renovated 60,800 square feet and added 149,900 square feet of new construction.
